About Us

Whitmore Classical Academy is a nonsectarian, tuition-free public charter school for students within the Siuslaw School District and a surrounding 30-mile radius. Whitmore Classical Academy's goal is to open September 2026 for grade K-3 and will expand one grade each year to its full offering of K-8.

Whitmore Classical Academy is located in Florence, Oregon. Florence is a small community of 9,000 residents located at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, on the Oregon Coast. It is approximately 65 miles west of Eugene, Oregon. Nearby, trails around the restored 19th century Heceta Head Lighthouse offer views of seabirds and migrating whales. Shops and galleries fill the city’s Historic Old Town District. Across the river are the towering sand dunes in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Board President's Message

Since 2022, Siuslaw Valley Charter School has worked with perseverance, courage and integrity to bring the idea of a Classical Education Charter School in Florence, Oregon to fruition. A Classical Education is a traditional way of learning with an emphasis on virtues, high academic standards in the core subjects, teacher driven classrooms, structure, less technology, and parent engagement. We will keep the politics of the day out of the classroom and strive to develop a love of learning in our students. We are purchasing the old-Rite Aid building on Highway 101 and are excited to hear children's voices in the halls after our summer remodel. We strive to be open and accessible to the public and families so please reach out with questions! We anticipate being strong partners with our school district and greater community and being an important part of the history of the Florence region.
